Journey Through Puerto Rico: Palominito

One day we took the boat out on a little jaunt to a tiny island in the middle of the vast ocean. This little island's name is Palominito.  Even it's name is cute. 

White sand, clear blue water. 

Yes, please.

On our way to Rincon, we made a pit stop to hike through the BAT CAVE!

Lucky for us bats sleep during the daytime.

Journey Through Puerto Rico: Surf's Up!

Ben REALLY wanted to surf on this trip! 

He's tried surfing in Peru and Hawaii before and can't get enough of it. 

Lucky him had his own private lesson. 

They spent about half the time on the sand.

The other half in the ocean.

Yeah, this is what I do instead of surfing.  Yes, my big toe is still broken. But it looks so much prettier when on the beach.

*Cue Beach Boys music...

Journey Through Puerto Rico: Hidden Beach

Oh, Puerto Rico, how I miss your white sand and crystal clear blue water. Today starts my picture journey through Puerto Rico. 

Hidden Beach

 To access this little gem you take an unmarked road through thick brush and a bumpy unpaved road. 

We had this stretch of sand to ourselves.

No one in sight!

The water was crystal clear blue and the sand was white.  We think this might be a turtle nest beach because we saw little blue flags stuck in the sand randomly.  We were careful not to let Xena near those so that she would not dig up the nests.  Did you know that turtles come back to the same beach they were born on to lay their eggs? It's true.  That's why it is so important to protect turtle beaches.

The waves were big and would have been perfect for boogie boarding.
