Gluten Free : Is it for Me?

There's been a lot of talk about a "Gluten-Free" diet.

I have a girlfriend who decided to try it to see if it would help with some of her stomach problems.  Maybe it would help with me, so I started looking in to it.  Two weeks ago I took the plunge and said for one week I will be entirely gluten free.  And you know what, something completely unexpected happened... within the first two days my sleeping habits changed dramatically.

Here I thought that maybe my crazy stomach issues would be fixed.  That was fixed, but my sleep was fixed too!  For years I've been telling my doctor that something is wrong with my sleeping.  Every year he takes a blood test to see if my thyroid is out of whack.  Last year I made him prescribe me the sleep apnea test. Yeah, that only proved that I didn't have it.  I am so tired all the time.  Or WAS tired all the time.  Like I said, within 2 days my sleep improved drastically. I slept through the entire night, felt rested upon waking and had waaaaay more energy than before.

So now I'm sticking as closely as possible to eating gluten-free!  It's not terribly difficult either. I do miss donuts sometimes, but that passes.  And sometimes I don't eat breakfast because I can't just grab a granola bar. Every once in a while I have something with wheat or flour and it's okay. I just have to keep it to a minimum.  Mister didn't notice a difference so he's back on the bread bandwagon.

Basically all I have to cut out is bread and pasta.  However, you can find bread and pasta that is gluten-free. And I can still eat rice, potatoes and tortilla chips (corn based of course). Oh... one thing I was sad about cutting out... TWIX. Can't eat those anymore. Oh well...

So if you are having sleeping problems and you have no idea why maybe you should consider going Gluten-Free for one week.

I'll have to try that. I never sleep through the night. But giving up donuts? That's going to be tough.
